The technique
Infrared or traditional Finnish?
Infrared cabins run on 230 V and heat through radiant warmth. A Finnish sauna uses a heater with stones and usually requires a three-phase supply. In the showroom, compare the dimensions, materials and finish.

Research
Twenty years of Finnish research, honestly summarised.
Researchers in Kuopio followed 2,315 Finnish men for more than twenty years. Those who went to the sauna four to seven times a week had a 63 per cent lower risk of sudden cardiac arrest than those who went once a week, as JAMA Internal Medicine published in 2015. It is observational research, so not proof of cause and effect. Our knowledge base sets out exactly what was measured, with the researchers’ own caveats.
